5th National Day of Small Museums

The MuMaF – Museum of Maritime and Lighthouse Heritage of Torre Canne, inaugurated in July 2020, aims to collect and narrate the life stories, knowledge, and experiences of lighthouse keepers and those who live off the sea resource 365 days a year. On Sunday, September 18, the museum will participate for the first time in the 5th National Day of Small Museums, with a special opening in the morning from 10:00 to 12:00 and in the afternoon from 17:00 to 21:00. Visits, on this occasion, will be free and visitors will be offered a small gift as a memento of the day.

 

In the late afternoon, various activities are planned, including: a marine biology workshop organized by Coop. Serapia starting at 18:30 with biologist Dr. Eleonora Meliadò, and a multi-voice meeting dedicated to the theme of cultural and landscape conservation of the sea and its resources. Speakers will include: Prof. Cinzia Caroli - Councillor for Culture of the Municipality of Fasano; Dr. Michele Claudio Masciopinto – Scientific Curator of MuMaF, Lawyer Lara Marchetta – AMP of Torre Guaceto, Francesco Sisto – Officine Maremosso, Pres. Stefano Gilli del Monte - National Association The World of Lighthouses, moderated by Irene M. Masciopinto – Head of Projects and Communication MuMaF.

 

At the end of the day, a short film dedicated to the last lighthouse keeper "The Day of the Lighthouse Keeper: the sunset of a profession" will be screened.

 

The day is promoted by the National Association of Small Museums and is sponsored by the UNESCO Chair "Cultural Landscapes of the Mediterranean and Communities of Knowledge" of the University of Basilicata and the City of Fasano.
